Why see a pediatric dentist?
A pediatric dentist is a dentist who has completed further specialist training in the care of babies, children and teenagers. In Korea, board-certified pediatric dentists (소아치과 전문의) are recognised by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Their training covers growing jaws, baby teeth with thinner enamel, and helping young or nervous patients feel safe.
At Yonsei Baro, children's dentistry is led by Dr. Ho-seon Lee , our Director of Pediatric Dentistry. Choose a service below to see what's involved and how to prepare your child.
When should your child first see a dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by your child's first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. It is mostly about prevention: a gentle look, advice on brushing and feeding, and a calm introduction to the dentist. See what happens at a first dental visit .
English support for parents
Let us know when you book that you'd like English support — Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee and our team can help explain your child's care in English. You can message us in English on WhatsApp or by email before you come in, and we provide English receipts and letters on request for insurance claims .
How do our pediatric dentist and orthodontist work together?
Between about ages 6 and 12, baby teeth are lost and permanent teeth arrive. At check-ups, Dr. Ho-seon Lee watches how teeth and the bite are developing. If crowding, a crossbite, a baby tooth lost too early or a thumb-sucking habit needs an orthodontic opinion, your child can see our orthodontist, Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee, in the same clinic. What if your child has a dental injury or toothache?
Call +82 2-592-2080 or send a photo on WhatsApp or KakaoTalk, and we will advise how soon your child should be seen. Outside clinic hours, go to a hospital emergency department; call 119 for breathing problems, heavy bleeding, a head injury or swelling spreading toward the eye or neck.

For children enrolled in Korea's National Health Insurance (NHIS), some care can be covered, for example sealants on permanent molars and tooth-coloured fillings on permanent teeth for younger children, depending on age and conditions.
