How Do Dental Fees and Payment Work for International Patients?
At Yonsei Baro Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry in Seoul, fees depend on your treatment’s complexity, the appliance and its duration, so we do not quote prices before an examination. After your consultation you receive a written estimate. Card payment is accepted, and English receipts and itemized statements are available on request.

Why don’t you publish prices?
Two people asking for “braces” or “Invisalign” can need very different treatment. One may need a few months of limited movement; another may need a longer plan to correct the bite, create space or guide a child’s growth. A single advertised price could not reflect that difference, and could easily mislead.
Instead, Dr. Sally Chaekyung Lee examines you first and explains what she recommends. You then receive a written estimate for that plan, so you know what to expect before you commit.
What affects the cost of orthodontic treatment?
- Complexity: how far teeth need to move, whether the bite or jaws are involved, and whether space must be created or closed
- Appliance: Invisalign , Angel Aligner , metal , ceramic or lingual braces
- Duration: the expected length of treatment and number of visits
- Additional steps: for example, refinement aligners or extra appliances that a plan may need
- Retention: retainers and retention check-ups after active treatment
For a fuller explanation, see the cost of orthodontic treatment .
What is in the written estimate?
After your first visit , the written estimate sets out the treatment Dr. Lee recommends and its fee. If more than one option is reasonable — for example aligners or braces — ask for each to be explained so you can compare them. If you have any questions about what is included, ask before treatment begins; we are happy to go through it with you.
Many overseas insurers ask for an estimate or treatment plan before approving orthodontic treatment. If yours does, tell us what they need.
How do I pay?
Card payment is accepted at the clinic. Orthodontic treatment runs over many months, so ask at your consultation how and when payments are made for your plan; we explain this together with your written estimate. Keep your receipts and statements for your records and for any insurance claim.
Children’s dentistry fees
For children enrolled in Korea’s National Health Insurance, some preventive and restorative care can be covered, depending on age and conditions. Treatments that are not covered are charged in full. We confirm coverage at your child’s visit and explain any charges before treatment. See kids’ dentistry and our NHIS guide for foreign residents .
Receipts and insurance documents
We do not bill insurers directly. On request, we provide:
- English receipts
- Itemized statements that list services line by line
- Medical certificates
- Doctor’s letters explaining the diagnosis and treatment
Ask your insurer in advance which documents and codes they need, and let us know when you book. See insurance and receipts for a step-by-step guide.
Reading a Korean receipt
Korean receipts often divide charges into covered ( geubyeo , 급여) and non-covered ( bigeubyeo , 비급여) items. A dental fee receipt is a jillyobi yeongsujeung (진료비 영수증). Our Korean dental terms glossary explains other words you may see.
Fees and payment FAQs
Can you give me a price for braces by email or WhatsApp?
We cannot quote a reliable fee before an examination, because the fee depends on your diagnosis, the appliance and how long treatment will take. What we can do by message is explain how the first visit works and what the estimate will cover. After your consultation, you receive a written estimate.
Why might two people pay different fees for the same type of braces?
Because the appliance is only part of the picture. The fee reflects how complex the tooth movements are, how long treatment is expected to take, how many visits are needed and whether extra steps such as refinements are likely. Your written estimate is based on your own diagnosis.
Do you accept foreign credit cards?
Card payment is accepted at the clinic. If you plan to use a card issued outside Korea, it is worth checking with your card provider beforehand that it is enabled for overseas payments, to avoid any problems on the day.
Will the fee change if my treatment takes longer than planned?
Your written estimate explains what the planned treatment includes. If your plan needs to change significantly, Dr. Lee will explain why and what it would mean before anything is done. Ask at your consultation how situations like this are handled, so you know in advance.
Can I get a receipt in English for my employer or insurer?
Yes. English receipts and itemized statements are available on request, along with medical certificates and doctor’s letters. If your employer or insurer needs specific information, such as diagnosis codes, let us know in advance so the documents include what they require.
